Historic - Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church
Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church was established in 1887. The church, built in 1922, was one of the most significant projects by pioneer African American builder and designer Richard L. Brown, who lived nearby in East Jacksonville. Brown served two consecutive terms in the Florida House of Representatives. Brown also purchased land in the same area and later deeded part of it to the Duval County School Board. An elementary school was built on land and later named in his honor.
