The Gray House - Allman Brothers History
The Gray House is a six-bedroom private residence built in 1915. The home boasts 4,022-square feet and was the final Jacksonville HQ for the Allman Brothers Band. While living in the Gray House, Gregg Allman wrote most of the band's first album including the song, "Whipping Post". There is a historical marker at the home with more band information. The first jam session was held on March 23, 1969 about 3:30PM according to Gregg. The Allman Brother Band was Duane and Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson.
