Higher Education

Northeast Florida is home to more than 13 colleges, universities, and state colleges, several of which are consistently nationally ranked.

University of North Florida is a nationally ranked university and part of Florida's State University System. UNF offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs, in addition to some doctoral degree programs, with noted business, nursing, coastal biology, nutrition, and music programs. UNF is often recognized for its commitment to inclusion and diversity, as well as, being military friendly.

Jacksonville University has been named an “America’s Best College” for 10 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report, Founded in 1934, JU is a premier private institution, offering more than 100 majors, minors, and programs, including Business, Engineering, Physics, Marine Science, and Nursing, as well as more specialized fields of Aviation, Film, Animation, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Sport Business.

Edward Waters University a private Christian historically Black university founded in 1866 as a school to educate freedmen and their children. It was the first independent institution of higher education and the first historically black college in the State. EWU offers bachelor degree programs in Business Administration, Biology, Criminal Justice, Communications, and Psychology.

University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville is the largest of the three UF colleges — Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy — on the 110-acre Jacksonville campus, located Downtown. The college's 16 clinical science departments house 440 faculty members and 380 residents and fellows. For practicing physicians, the college has a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well regarded in their fields.

Situated on the 400 acre Mayo Clinic campus is the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, a private graduate research program that trains physicians, scientists, and health professionals.
