Accessible Outdoor Adventures

Jacksonville boasts the largest urban park system in the nation with 80,000 acres of parks, gardens and arboretums. Travelers with disabilities will find many outdoor activities are open to them, offering opportunity for exploration and adventure.

The City of Jacksonville’s Disabled Services Division works closely with many local rehabilitation and non-profit agencies to provide adaptive recreation, including kayaking. The Parks & Recreation Division website offers a directory that can be filtered for accessible amenities and wheelchair access. Find some of them below and check their website for a full listing:

Accessible Beach Access & Beach Wheelchairs

Atlantic Beach

Beach Wheelchairs are free to use. They request you submit an application to ensure a ranger can get the wheelchair out to you.

Reserve a chair for any of the following access points: Ahern St., 1st St., 2nd St., 3rd St., 4th St., 5th St., 6th St., 7th St., 10th St., 11th St., 12th St., 13th St., 14th St., 15th St., Dewees, and 19th St.

Jacksonville Beach

Wheelchair accessible ramps to the beach:

  • 5th Avenue North
  • Beach Boulevard and 1st Street – Access from the Boardwalk
  • 6th Avenue South
  • 16th Avenue South

*Beach Wheelchairs are available at the Lifeguard Station (2 Ocean Front N, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250).

Neptune Beach

Below is a listing of beach access ramps that feature handicapped parking:

Atlantic Boulevard: 1 disabled parking space
Lemon Street: 4 disabled parking spaces
Davis Street: 1 disabled parking space
Hopkins: 2 disabled parking spaces

Hanna Park

Accessible ramps and beach mats are available in lots 8 and 11.
