Jacksonville boasts the largest urban park system in the nation with 80,000 acres of parks, gardens and arboretums. Travelers with disabilities will find many outdoor activities are open to them, offering opportunity for exploration and adventure.
The City of Jacksonville’s Disabled Services Division works closely with many local rehabilitation and non-profit agencies to provide adaptive recreation, including kayaking. The Parks & Recreation Division website offers a directory that can be filtered for accessible amenities and wheelchair access.
Popular local State Parks Little Talbot Island and Big Talbot Island both have a paved pathway, among other accessible offerings. Other State Parks have accessible features, including Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve. Each of the seven local State Parks is different, and it’s recommended that visitors check individual pages for details.
The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve National Park features two sites offering self-guided audio tours, Kingsley Plantation and Fort Caroline.
The Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens and Tree Hill Nature Center have accessible walkways and trails.
The Jacksonville Baldwin Rail Trail offers a 12-foot wide paved trail.
Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach offer beach wheelchairs at no cost.

Beach Wheelchairs are free to use. They request you submit an application to ensure a ranger can get the wheelchair out to you.
Reserve a chair for any of the following access points: Ahern St., 1st St., 2nd St., 3rd St., 4th St., 5th St., 6th St., 7th St., 10th St., 11th St., 12th St., 13th St., 14th St., 15th St., Dewees, and 19th St.
